Low Cost Spay/Neuter Clinic
clinic@animalcareleague.org

The Animal Care League not only cares for animals housed at our shelter, we also strive to help prevent unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, assist in keeping owned companion animals healthy and improve the chances that lost pets find their way home.  To aid this, we offer the following services:

Low Cost Spay/Neuter
We believe that responsible pet ownership is the best way to reduce the number of unwanted animals on the streets and in the shelter systems.  We offer low cost spay and neuter surgeries in the Animal Care League’s Clinic at 1011 Garfield Ave in Oak Park, IL.  All surgeries are performed by a licensed Veterinarian.
  • Surgeries must be scheduled in advance. No walk-ins will be accepted. To make an appointment, either call the shelter at (708)848-8155 or visit us in person at the address above.
  • Animals must be dropped off on the day of surgery between 8:00am and 8:30am and must be picked up between 4:30pm and 5:30pm the same day. A $50/day fee will be assessed for any animal not picked up by the required time.
  • Payment for all services rendered by the Animal Care League are due at the time animals are DROPPED OFF at the shelter.  We accept cash, personal checks with ID, and visa, mastercard, or discover.
  • Due to the increased risks associated with anesthesia, surgery, or recovery in the following pets, our clinic will not perform surgeries on dogs that weigh more than 80lbs, dogs that are over 6 years of age, cats that are over 10 years of age, or on the following breeds: English Bulldogs.
  • We perform spay and neuter for dogs for $75.
  • We perform spay and neuter for cats for $50.
  • We require that all pets have proof that they are current on their vaccines: DA2PP for dogs and FVRCP for cats, and rabies for both dogs and cats.  If your pet is not up to date, these vaccines can be provided the day of surgery for $20 for DA2PP and FVRCP and $15 for rabies one year with Cook Co. rabies tag.
In addition to reducing the number of unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, there are other health benefits to spaying and neutering your pets.  These include:

  • reduced risk of mammary (breast) cancer
  • eliminate risk of pyometra (infection in the uterus)
  • eliminate risk of testicular cancer and prostatic hyperplasia
  • reduced urine marking and urine spraying behaviors
  • reduced urge to “roam” and get lost
  • reduced mounting and mating behaviors
  • possible decreased aggression between dogs
Spaying or neutering your pet before they reach sexual maturity (we generally recommend 6 months of age) has the most medical benefits.

Low Income Vaccinations
The Animal Care League understands that everyone wants the best care possible for their pets, but may be faced with financial difficulties.  While we recommend that every pet has an annual examination, consultation, and vaccinations or other tests and treatments from their full service veterinarian, we know that is not an option for everyone.  The Animal Care League offers afternoon appointments for low cost vaccinations and basic veterinary medical care to families that qualify as being low income.  To qualify, the family must present either a State of Illinois ID card confirming that they are on State's assistance OR a current W-2 form showing they earn less than $20,000 per year.  For these appointments the DA2PP and FVRCP vaccinations cost $20 and rabies vaccinations with a Cook Co. rabies tag cost $15 for all animals. Appointments are required to receive vaccinations which can be made by phoning the shelter (708)848-8155 or visiting us in person at the address above.

Microchipping
The Animal Care League will microchip a companion animal for $15 for anyone wishing this service. Appointments are required and can be made by phoning (708)848-8155 or visiting the shelter at the address above.
