This Month's Featured Rabbit

Picture
Columbus
Columbus is a delightful young adult male domestic rabbit. His age is estimated between 1-2 years old. Columbus is very friendly and enjoys being petted & talked to. He also loves his veggies and any toy he can flip around! Columbus may also enjoy the company of another bunny or a calm, respectful cat. Stop by to visit him, he is currently in the window of our office. Our staff can explain the special care rabbits need, and help you decide if Columbus is the pet for you! (No dogs, please.)

This Month's Featured Cat

Ferdinand
He was once called "a grumpy old fart" but not anymore. But that was because he lost his home & lived with his person & several other companion pets in a car for awhile & eventually found himself in a cage at a shelter. Mostly, he's a big sweetie & is a favorite with the kennel techs at the shelter, shop volunteers and visitors to the shop. Yes, he is a little older, but that happens to all of us, and he knows what he wants from life. He wants to be able to roll on his back and scratch his scratch pad & enjoy his food & have some pleasant company and a forever home and snooze in a comfy chair. Life has taught him to roll with the punches & get back up again. He is confident and sociable & enjoys human companionship. When he rolls on his back & stretches out he is saying, "I'm comfy & content" but sometimes people mistake that for an invitation to rub his tummy, and it definitely is not. Very few cats actually like to have their tummies touched. He also has a funny silent meow and an even funnier squawky sound. You have to hear it for yourself to truly enjoy it. He likes to be on your lap but trying to fit all of his large self on one lap is a challenge so he kind of drapes himself across. He is easy to pickup and carry, & although a bit heavy, he is on a diet & hopes to soon find a new home where he can exercise more and become svelte. He is comfortable with other cats and possibly a larger, respectful dog. He would be best in an adult home & with children over 10. And, he is very handsome, but it hasn't made him conceited at all. Come and meet him at Animal Care League's 2nd Chance Shop, at 808 Harrison, Oak Park. Phone 708-383-9660.

Casey
Casey is a big and active guy who came into ACL as a stray. He has a beautiful, long coat and loves attention. Casey is also very housebroken. For his next home, Casey would like to find an active one where he can get lots of exercise and training that he apparently did not get in his first home. Casey is smart and promises to catch onto training if you use some little, smelly treats that he loves. Since coming to the shelter he's learned sit, down, and stay. Casey is recommended for homes with children over 10 and would also probably do best in a home as an only pet.
