Bartleby's Journey

Bartleby came to ACL with a broken jaw and a fractured skull
When Bartleby the cat arrived at the ACL clinic, we could tell that his jaw was badly broken. The resident who found him had recognized him—the friendly tabby who had been hanging around the neighborhood. But now, on her porch in the morning, he wasn’t moving. Amidst cold overnight temperatures, it seemed his face had frozen to the ground.
Bartleby was rushed to safety at ACL, and our medical team got to work to assess his injuries. Right away, it was clear that he would need to see a specialist to get the treatment he needed. As Bartleby ate through a feeding tube, waiting to see if he would be able to receive the treatment that would allow him to eat on his own again, we shared his story and asked for support from our community.

The response to Bartleby's story was immediate—an outpouring of generosity and compassion for an animal in need. You helped us hit our goal in barely any time at all, and allowed us to get an appointment with a specialist as soon as possible. Thanks to these funds, Bartleby could have his jaw reconstructed with wire and get on track to a full recovery. The specialist also discovered two other fractures that we hadn't been able to see, and made sure that he had everything he needed to heal.

After coming back to ACL, Bartleby went to foster care with one of our staff, and he is doing so much better! Relaxing in his bed, watching birds out the window, and eating wet food all on his own, he seems so happy to be feeling more like himself again. Your support made all of this possible, and soon, when Bartleby is ready to move into his forever home, we will have that support—that heartfelt desire to help an animal in need—to thank. On behalf of Bartleby and the ACL team, thank you! 💚
